IPSC Special Meeting

Summary of the IPSC meeting held on September 12, 2008
Club de Tir Ville St-Pierre

The club representatives of CTVSP organized a meeting for the members of the club who participate in the sport of IPSC in order to prepare for the 2008-2009 winter season.

It was mentioned during the opening remarks that last year we were fortunate to have new members step forward as match directors. In an attempt to assure that the same thing be repeated this year, both Sylvain and Peter were willing to be paired up with anyone who may feel that they need a little guidance in setting up a match. Last season we were also fortunate to have new range officers to officiate the matches. The help of both the new match directors and new range officers was greatly appreciated at it took away a lot of the burden on the habitual officials.

The items on the agenda were:

1. Selection of the Match Directors
2. Build crew (Friday)
3. Range Officers and work policy
4. Varia

Selection of the Match Directors

It was announced to the members present at the meeting that if there were no match directors identified two weeks prior to a match, the match would be cancelled.

The responsibilities of the match director were discussed and remain similar to that of the previous season:

" Stage design (plans to be submitted 2 weeks prior to the match)
" Identify the work crew for the construction
" Supervision of the construction on the Friday
" Work distribution during the match (RO, score keeper, stats etc.)
" Enforcement of the work policy

Build crew (Friday)

The work crew from the previous season were excellent. It was felt amongst all that further discussions concerning recruiting members for the build crew were not required since ample volunteers were available.

A suggestion was brought forth in regards to the tools utilized by the build crew. Instead of the members bringing their own tools, in conjunction to those from the club, CTVSP should have a dedicated tool box ONLY for IPSC matches containing all the necessary hardware. This would minimize the down time in searching for tools, screw or any other item required to construct the stages. This item will be discussed with the CTVSP administration.

Range Officers and work policy

The work policy implemented last season will remain in force. It is up to the match director to assure that the directives are followed. The consensus of the group was that the same individuals somehow find an excuse not to work. Both Sylvain and Peter stressed that the match director must assure there are enough range officers, score keepers and patchers in order to maintain a smooth running match. It is also the responsibility of the range officer along with the match director (should they need to intervene) to assure that ALL members of a squad work equally regardless of their rank.

Both Peter and Sylvain (who are always present at the matches) would be more than happy to assist the match director to settle any disputes. Basically if one does not work, they cannot shoot the match!

It is important to remember however that the rules should not be applied blindly and that common sense should always prevail. Sylvain and Peter brought forth examples where by work policy should not be enforced. This was unanimously accepted by the group.

Please note that ONLY the work crew has the privilege of shooting the match on a Friday night (minimum of one hour work as oppose to arriving when the stages are almost finished being built.

THE MANDATORY WORK POLICY IMPLEMENTED IN 2007-2008

The mandatory work policy would be implemented this year for every match of the 2007-2008 season. Therefore, a shooter attending a match will be required to work for a minimum of 1 hour as directed by the match director. This policy is not unusual as it is in force at all the others clubs and will allow for a fair workload distribution among the participants.

The match director will have the authority to mobilize the shooters in order to execute certain tasks to assure proper functioning of the match. However, under exceptional circumstances, the match director may allow a shooter to be exempt from work.

Default or refusal to comply will result in the withdrawal of the score sheet of the shooter or the member will not be allowed to shoot the match. Please note that the latter situation will not be grounds for the shooter to request a refund of the match fee.

For clarification purposes, participants of the work crew who set up the match on Friday are exempt from working on Saturday as they already done their part.

Varia

To date neither Sylvain nor Peter has been invited to an ATPQ meeting. The last meeting they attended was held on March 24th 2006 at Drummondville. Sylvain and Peter will enquire when the 2008 APTQ executive meeting will be held.

A suggestion was made concerning the last stall in range two. Due to the stairs found directly behind the shooting stall, the shooter must either start the stage facing the last stall or finish the stage by have their feet placed in front of the second to last stall. Since this sometimes is forgotten when the match director designs the match, it was thought that a bowling pin or clay pigeon array is permanently setup and a charge of $5.00 is charged to shoot the array. The money collected can then be donated to a charity either at the end of the season or combined with the money collected at the charity shoot in December. Your comments can be sent to either Sylvain or Peter.

Respectfully submitted,

Peter Vallinis and Sylvain Boisvert

"What is even more awkward, is to find CTVSP members that are not even IPSC shooters come out to help, when IPSC shooters are content with showing up, paying the fee, shooting the match and escaping as soon as possible after they have shot". Read the Whole story

CTVSP Goes No Smoking

As of January 1st CTVSP has gone "no smoking". After numerous requests from the members to observe the no smoking by-law Marco has decided to start as of January 1st and beat the by-law. All the members appreciate the no smoking rule and we have received many thumbs up. As far as the smokers all have been very co-operative and don't mind stepping outside to light up a cigarette. This co-operation is really appreciated by all our members who do not smoke as well as the staff, and to top it all it smells a lot better!!!.
